Authorities said Thursday a body discovered at Acadia National Park is that of a missing 45-year-old man, according to a news report.

Adam "A.J." Emmett had been missing in the area since Monday, according to an earlier news release. Park officials said Thursday the body had been identified, and Emmett's family had been notified.

The body was discovered in the ocean near Sand Beach and Thunder Hole.

“This is a very sad event,” said Acadia National Park Deputy Superintendent Michael Madell. “Our thoughts go out to Mr. Emmett’s family and friends.”

The discovery marks the end of a search that started Tuesday, April 9, when park rangers noticed that a vehicle had been parked in the Schooner Head Overlook since before Monday’s snowstorm. NPS park rangers checked the immediate area and were unable to contact the owner.

On Wednesday, the NPS conducted a search of the area around Schooner Head and Great Head with the law enforcement and search dog teams. The Maine Warden Service and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) were notified to assist with the search.

Emmett was described as a "well-liked and respected resident."

The State Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
