After 46 years Richard Norwood is retiring from Pemetic Elementary School in Southwest Harbor. To say that he touched the hearts and minds of thousands of children is an understatement. Richard has been there so long, he's on the 3rd generation of some families, having been involved with the grandparents and parents of current students. On Monday, June 6th, it was Richard Norwood Day at Pemetic Elementary School. WDEA's Chris Popper was there and interviewed Richard and took pictures of some of the activities.

Richard went to Pemetic High School, which was located at the current Pemetic Elementary School location, so to say that Richard has been at this location for most of his life is very true! Luckily Richard is going to continue to drive the bus for many of the Athletic Teams at MDI High School, even after his retirement from Pemetic Elementary School!

Here's Cathy Lewis, the Principal of Pemetic Elementary School on Richard.

Richard was inducted into the MDI High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Here's the Bio that was read the night Richard was inducted on October 4, 2013.

He graduated from Pemetic High School in 1966. He was a four year starter for the Pemetic Indians in basketball from 1962 through 1966. As a freshman, he was named to the first team All Island Basketball Team. Richard was the team leading scorer and rebounder for basketball his sophomore, junior and senior years. Richard was selected captain his junior and senior years and was selected to the All Tourney Team during his senior year for the Class M Basketball Tournament. He was selected to the Maine State High School Basketball Hall of Fame during his Senior Year.

Richard served on the student council during his high school career and was named president his senior year. He also served on the yearbook committee during his high school career.

After high school Richard attended EMVTI where he earned a degree in business administration.

Richard is currently the Maintenance Supervisor for the Pemetic Elementary School and drives the bus for many extra curricular trips for the high school.
