For the 2nd game in a row, the Boston Red Sox won in extra innings, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in the Fenway home opener on Thursday, April 5th 3-2 in 12 innings. The game winning hit again came from Hanley Ramirez who was 2-6.

Ramirez drove in the 1st run of the game and now has 6 RBI's in the last 3 games including 4 in the 9th inning or later!

David Price started the game for the Red Sox and threw 7 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. This was his 2nd straight scoreless start to begin the season.

Carson Smith allowed 2 runs in the 8th inning, giving up 1 hit, a 2 run homer to Matt Duffy and walked 1 and struck out 1.

Bobby Poyner threw 2 innings, the 11th and 12, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3 to earn his 1st major league win in his 4th career game.

JD Martinez was 2-5 with a triple, in his first at bat at Fenway Park as a member of the Red Sox. He also singled in the 11th inning.

The 6-1 Red Sox are off on Friday and will play the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2nd game of the 3 game series on Saturday afternoon with the pregame starting at 12:20 and 1st pitch at 1:05 PM on AM1370 WDEA. Rick Porcello 1-0 is the scheduled pitcher for the Red Sox.
