WDEA AM 1370 kicks off our coverage of Red Sox baseball this afternoon, Friday February 23rd with the 1st of 30 Spring Training baseball games. This afternoon the Boston Red Sox play the Minnesota Twins with the 1st pitch at 1:05 PM and the pregame starting at 1 PM.

The Red Sox are scheduled to send Hector Velazquez and Fernando Rodriguez to the mound

Yesterday, the Red Sox beat Northeastern College 15-2 and Boston College 4-2 in 7 inning exhibition games.

In the game against Northeastern the Red Sox scored all 15 runs in the 1st 3 innings. Blake Swihart was 1-1 with a triple, 2 walks, 3 RBI's and scored 3 times. Minor leaguer Kyri Washington hit a grand slam in the 3rd inning. Lefty Jalen Beeks started and threw 2.0 scoreless innings. '

The Red Sox and Twins will meet 7 times this Spring, with the winner of the series winning the Mayor's Chairman's Cup. Since 2012 the Red Sox have won the Cup 3 times (2012, 2013 and 2015). There have been 2 ties (2014 and last year 2017) and Minnesota won it in 2016.
