The Boston Red Sox traded for Baltimore Oriole right handed pitcher Andrew Cashner on Saturday, July 13th.

According to a Red Sox press release

Cashner, 32, is 9-3 with a 3.83 ERA (41 ER/96.1 IP) in 17 starts for the Orioles this season. He has thrown at least 7.0 innings in both of his last two starts and at least 6.0 innings in each of his last five, posting a 1.41 ERA (5 ER/32.0 IP) since the start of June. He allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of those five outings, totaling 18 strikeouts and only four walks in that time while holding opponents to a .168 batting average and zero home runs. On the season, Cashner has held left-handed hitters to a .182 batting average, a .499 OPS, and only one home run.

Since the start of April, Cashner has made nine starts against teams that entered today with a winning record. He has posted a 2.75 ERA (16 ER/52.1 IP) in those nine games, including two starts each against the Yankees, Red Sox, and A’s, as well as one start apiece against the Rays, Astros, and Indians. The Texas native has thrown at least 6.0 innings and allowed one run or fewer in each of his last three starts against winning teams, most recently tossing 7.0 scoreless frames on June 29 against Cleveland.

Cashner will be a free-agent at the end of the year.

The Red Sox gave up minor league infielder Noelberth Romero and minor league outfielder Elio Prado.

Romero, 17, made his professional debut this season with the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League Red Sox2. The right-handed hitter has appeared in 29 games, making 22 starts at third base, five at second base, and two at shortstop. He has batted .264 (29-for-110) with two home runs, drawing 11 walks against 20 strikeouts.

Prado, 17, also made his professional debut this season with the DSL Red Sox2, batting .303 (37-for-122) with three home runs in 33 games. He has made 18 starts in center field, seven in right field, and six in left field. The right-handed hitter has scored 26 runs with 26 RBI, adding nine stolen bases with 20 walks and 21 strikeouts.
