The Boston Red Sox beat the San Diego Padres 10-2 on Friday, August 8th to start a 6-game road trip.

Wilyer Abreu hit a 2-run home run, his 21st of the season, in the 4th inning, off of former Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta.

Masataka Yoshida hit a 2-run home run in the 9th inning, finishing the night 2-4 with a double and 3 runs batted in

Roman Anthony batting leadoff was 2-4, reaching base 3 times with a walk to go with his pair of singles.

Connor Wong, catching, was 2-5 with a double, and drove in 3 runs.

Walker Buehler pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just 4 hits and holding the Padres scoreless. He struck out 4 and walked 2, improving to 7-6 on the season.

Boston is now 65-52, in 2nd place in the AL East. They are 3.0 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston owns the 1st Wild Card playoff spot.

Boston and San Diego will play game 2 of the 3-game series Saturday night, with the pregame starting at 7:40 and 1st pitch at 8:40 on WDEA AM 1370.
