The Boston Red Sox are 8-1 for the first time in franchise history, winning their 8th game in a row, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 on Sunday afternoon, April 8th.

The Red Sox batted around in the 8th inning, scoring 5 runs with 2 outs! Every batter in the Red Sox starting lineup with the exception of JD Martinez had at least 1 hit. Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez and Christian Vazquez each had 2 hits. Betts, Mitch Moreland, Rafael Devers and Andrew Benintendi each had a double.

Eduardo Rodriquez started the game for the Red Sox and pitched 3.2 Innings allowing 5 hits, 3 earned runs, walking 2 and striking out 7. Hector Velazquez and Brian Johnson, both of whom had been moved to the bullpen allowed 2 runs each. Carson Smith picked up the win, his 1st of the season and Craig Kimbrel recorded his 3rd save of the season.

The downside.. Xander Bogaerts hurt his left ankle sliding into the Ray's dugout, trying to keep the ball in play, and was immediately removed from the game. He's considered day to day and will be evaluated on Monday.

Prior to today’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox activated left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez from the 10-day disabled list. To make room for Rodriguez on the 25-man roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Marcus Walden to Triple-A Pawtucket following yesterday’s game against the Rays.
