Red Sox Pound Twins 9-2 Thursday Afternoon
The Boston Red Sox salvaged 1 game in Minnesota, beating the Twins 9-2 as the Red Sox batters who had been quiet in the first 2 games, banged out 16 hits and Rick Porcello was brilliant through 7 innings.
Porcello, improving to 9-3 on the season allowed just 1 hit and no runs in 7 innings, striking out 5 and walking just 1 Twin.
Mookie Bettes was 3-6, hitting his 19th homer of the season, a solo shot in the 5th inning. Andrew Benintendi blasted a 2 run homer in the 8th, his 13th of the season. JD Martinez, Benintendi, Mitch Moreland, Xander Bogaerts, Brock Holt and Sandy Leon each had 2 hits. Bogaerts, Martinez, Moreland and Holt each had a double. As a matter of fact, every Boston starter with the exception of Rafael Devers had a hit.
Boston, now has 50 wins on the season, and are still 2 games behind the Yankees in the AL East. The Yankees swept Seattle, winning Thursday 4-3.
The Red Sox end the 10 game road trip with a 6-4 record. They now return to Fenway and will play a 3 game series with the Mariners and 3 game series with the Angels, before playing 3 games on the road with the Yankees and Washington Nationals.
