Red Sox News and Notes March 24
The Boston Red Sox begin the 2018 Regular Season 5 days from today on Thursday, March 29th in Florida against the Tampa Bay Rays. Today, Saturday, March 24th they take on the Houston Astros in a Spring Training game at 1 PM. All games can be heard on AM 1370 WDEA.
Prior to today's game against the Astros, the Red Sox made 7 roster moves. They optioned infielder Tzu-Wei Lin and left handed pitchers Roenis Elias and Robby Scott to Triple A Pawtucket. They also assigned 4 players to the minor league camp - catcher Dan Butler, infielder Ivan De Jesus Jr. and outfielders Rusney Castillo and Aneury Tavarez. The Sox announced that De Jesus would remain with the big league club through the end of spring training.
The Red Sox now have 36 players in the big league camp, including 33 players on the 40 man roster and 3 non-roster invitees.
The Red Sox also signed catcher Christian Vázquez to a three-year contract extension through the 2021 season, with a club option for the 2022 season.
Yesterday the Red Sox shutout the Yankees 5-0. Ivan De Jesus Jr. was 3-4 knocking in 2 RBIs with a solo home run. Sam Travis also hit a solo homer for the Red Sox. Brian Johnson pitched for the Red Sox throwing 4.2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 5.
Today the Red Sox are scheduled to send Chris Sale, Heath Hembree and Brandon Workman to the mound.
Tomorrow the Red Sox play the Minnesota Twins at 1PM, with David Price scheduled to start.
