Red Sox News and Notes March 2
The Boston Red Sox play the St. Louis Cardinals today, Friday, March 2nd at 1PM in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370. The Red Sox are scheduled to send Drew Pomeranz, Justin Haley, Roenis Elias and Ty Buttrey to the mound.
Yesterday, the Red Sox lost to Houston 10-5, The highlight for the Red Sox, Hanley Ramirez hit his first homer of the Spring, a solo shot in the 4th inning.
This morning, the Red Sox announced they had signed 18 players to 1 year contracts. Signing were pitchers Matt Barnes, Jalen Beeks, Ty Buttrey, Roenis Elias, Heath Hembree, Williams Jerez, Brian Johnson, Austin Maddox, Robby Scott, Chandler Shepherd and Hector Velazquez. Also signing were infielders Rafael Devers, Marco Hernandez, Tzu-Wei Lin, Deven Marrero and Sam Travis. Outfielder Andrew Benintendi and catcher/utility player Blake Swihart also signed.
With these contracts, all players on the Red Sox 40 man major league roster are under contract for 2018.
The Red Sox will play the New York Yankees tomorrow Saturday at 1 PM and then the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, March 4th before having an off day on Monday March 5th. The Sox will send Brian Johnson, Joe Kelly, Brandon Workman, Heath Hembree, Carson Smith, Bobby Scott, Kyle Martin and Matt Barnes to the mound against the Yankees on Saturday. Both of the weekend's games will be on WDEA AM 1370
