Red Sox-Mets’ Game Suspended Friday Night to Resume Saturday Afternoon
Friday night's baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets at Fenway Park was suspended in the bottom of the 4th inning because of rain. The game will resume Saturday afternoon, July 22nd at 2:10 p.m.
The scheduled afternoon game between the 2 clubs has been moved to Saturday night, with the pregame beginning at 6:10 p.m. and 1st pitch at 7:10 p.m.
When the game was suspended Alex Verdugo was at the plate for the Red Sox in the bottom of the 4th inning with the Mets leading 4-3. The count was 1-2 on Verdugo with 1 out.
Kutter Crawford was pitching for the Red Sox and had allowed 4 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 2 and didn't walk a batter. He allowed a pair of 2-run homers, to Brandon Nimmo, his 15th of the season and to Daniel Vogelbach, his 6th of the season.
Boston had scored a run in the 1st inning and then 2 in the bottom of the 2nd, to lead 3-0 before the Mets hit the home runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.
In the 1st inning Jarren Duran led off the game with a single and stole 2nd base, advancing to 3rd on a throwing error by Francisco Alvarez, the Mets' catcher. He then scored on a ground out by Justin Turner.
In the 2nd inning, with 2 out Triston Casas and advanced to 2nd on a single by Connor Wong. Yu Chang then doubled scoring both Casas and Wong.
The Red Sox received encouraging news from Portland where Trevor Story and Corey Kluber were on a rehab assignment. Story hit a 3-run homer in the 5th inning, after walking and scoring in the 1st inning. Kluber pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 1, and didn't walk a batter while throwing 35 pitches. Story played 5 innings at short. He's scheduled to be the designated hitter on Saturday, and then play 5 more innings at shortstop on Sunday for the Sea Dogs.
