The Boston Red Sox lost the series finale to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night, June 7th, 7-2, as Jalen Beeks, making his major league debut was rocked.

Beeks struck out Jacoby Jones, the first batter he faced, but it was downhill from there. He pitched 4.0 innings allowing 7 hits, 6 runs and struck out 4 and walked 3. He was optioned back to Triple A Pawtucket after the game.

Brian Johnson came on in relief and effectively shut the door on the Tigers, throwing 4.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and didn't walk a batter.

Andrew Benintendi was 2-5 with a homer. He now has homered in each of his last 2 games, 4 of his last 5 games and 8 of his last 17 games

Blake Swihart made his 1st major league start as a catcher since April 12, 2016. He was 1-3 with a walk and double.

The New York Yankees were idle last night, and they open a weekend series against the New York Mets.
