The Boston Red Sox lost their 1st game of the 2019 Spring Training Season, dropping a game to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 on Monday, February 25th, as the Pirates scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Bryce Brentz homered for the Red Sox in the top of the 2nd inning, a solo shot. The Red Sox managed only 4 hits off the Pirate's pitching staff.
Brian Johnson started for the Red Sox, and threw the first 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 2.
Bobby Poyner pitched a scoreless inning for the Red Sox, striking out 1.
