Tuesday night's 5-4 win by the Boston Red Sox over the Tampa Bay Rays was notable for 3 things. The Red Sox win put them 10 games over .500 for the 1st time all season, they are in 2nd place (tied with the Rays) for the 1st time since March and Chris Sale won back-to-back-games for the 1st time all season!

Chris Sale went 6 innings allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 10 and walked 3. He's 5-9 on the season. He left with a 3-2 lead as Christian Vazquez hit a pinch hit homer, his 16th of the season in the top of the 7th.

It wouldn't be a 2019 Red Sox game without a little bullpen excitement. After Matt Barnes pitched a scoreless 7th inning, Brandon Workman came on in the 8th.  After pitching a scoreless inning he came back out in the 9th inning. He allowed 2 runs and Marcus Walden finally got the last out, for his 2nd save of the season. In the 9th the Red Sox walked 3 batters. Tampa Bay left the bases loaded.

Rafael Devers had 2 hits, as did Xander Bogaerts. JD Martinez was 3-4

Prior to the game, the Red Sox activated Mitch Moreland from the injured reserve list and optioned Marco Hernandez to Triple A Pawtucket.

Boston is still 10 games out of 1st place and 2 games out of the wild card

The Red Sox, now 56-46 will go for the 3 game sweep against the Rays on Wednesday. The pregame begins at 11AM with the 1st pitch at 12:10. David Price is scheduled to pitch for the Red Sox.
