Red Sox Drop Pair of Split Squad Games Wednesday Play Nationals Thursday
The Boston Red Sox dropped a pair of split squad Spring Training games on Wednesday, losing to the Baltimore Orioles 7-6 and to the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4.
In the game against the Orioles, the Red Sox hit a pair of home runs. Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the home half of the 1st inning with a home run, his 2nd of the spring. Michael Chavis hit his 3rd 3-run homer of the spring in the 4th inning.
Eduardo Rodriguez making his first appearance of the spring allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits. He struck out 3, walked 1 and gave up a homer. Tyler Thornburg in his first appearance coming back from vascular surgery threw 1 inning, allowing 2 earned runs, striking out 1 and giving up 1 homer.
In the game against Tampa Bay, Tony Renda and Rafael Devers each hit solo home runs for Boston. Andrew Benintendi had a double.
On Thursday, the Red Sox will play the Washington Nationals at 1:05. Hector Velazquez will make his spring debut for Boston. The pregame starts at 1 with the first pitch at 1:05 on AM 1370 WDEA.
