Red Sox Bullpen Blows It Fall to Rangers 4-3 in 11 Innings

Poor Chris Sale! He pitched a tremendous game striking out 10 in 7 innings and left with a 2-1 lead. But, the Boston Red Sox bullpen couldn't close the game out, with Matt Barnes giving up 2 runs in the 9th and Ryan Brasier 1 in the 11th. The result... Another heartbreaking loss, this time 4-3 to the Rangers.

Andrew Benintendi gave the Red Sox a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, with his 7th homer of the season. But the Red Sox are 2-21 this season when scoring 3 runs or less

Brock Holt tied the game in the bottom of the 9th with a 2 out pinch hit single. In 55 career pinch-hitting at-bats he is batting.313 with 11 RBIs.

JD Martinez returned to the starting lineup and was 2-3 with a walk. It was his 1st game since he went out with a tweaked back on June 6

Marco Hernandez was 1-2 with a pinch-hit double with 2 outs in the 9th inning. He's had 3 doubles since being recalled from Triple A Pawtucket on June 8th.

Prior to the game the Red Sox held a moment of silence in support of Big Papi, David Ortiz who was shot in the Dominican Republic. The Red Sox sent an air ambulance to transport Ortiz to Boston, where he is not being treated.

The Red Sox and Rangers will play the 2nd game of the 4 game series, with the pregame starting at 6:10 and 1st pitch at 7:10 on Tuesday, June 11th. The Red Sox have moved the start time of Wednesday's game to a 4:05 1st pitch.
