Red Sox Drop Third Straight, Fall To Blue Jays 2-1

The Boston Red Sox lost their 3rd straight game, falling to the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 on Monday night, August 10th.

Boston was outhit 7-6 and were 0-9 with runners in scoring position. They left 9 runners on base.

Sonny Gray took the loss for the Red Sox and is now 14-3. He went 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 1. 2 of Gray's 3 losses have come at the bats of the Blue Jays.

Jovani Moran pitched the final 2.0 innings allowing just a hit and striking out 1.

Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-3. Jarren Duran had a double. Nick Sogard, Connor Wong and Anthony Seigler each had a single.

Boston's lone run came in the 7th inning and was a result of a base-running error. The scoreboard was showing 2 outs, yet there was really only 1 out. With 1 out, Ceddanne Rafaela fley out to centerfield. Siegler, on 3rd and Sogard at 1st were off at the crack of the bat, thinking there were 2 out. Neither runner tagged, thinking there were 2 out. Siegler crossed the plate. The Blue Jays threw the ball to 1st, in effect doubling up Sogard and left the field. After a 15-minute delay, where the New York replay center was contacted, the umpires ruled that Siegler's run counted.

Boston is expected to activate catcher Adley Rutschman from the injured list and he is expected to make his Red Sox debut Tuesday night. Boston will need to make a roster move prior to the game.

Boston and Toronto will play game 2 of the 4-game series Tuesday night, August 11th with the pregame starting at 6:07 p.m. on WDEA AM 1370.
