Red Sox Beat Twins 5-4 in Walk-Off in 10 Innings

In 1 of the most unusual plays you'll see at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on a walk-off single by Alex Verdugo in the 10th inning on Tuesday, April 18th.

After scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 10th to tie the score at 4-4 Verdugo hit a ball down the right field foul line. It hit the padding just past the yellow line in fair territory to score the winning run. The Red Sox had initially celebrated the walk-off win, but then had to awkwardly wait on the field while replay confirmed the winning hit. Once confirmed the celebration began anew!

Verdugo ended the night 3-5 with a double and his 6th career walk-off. Chris Sale was brilliant on the mound after 3 disappointing starts. He went 6.0 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 11 and walked 2. His 11 strikeouts were the most since he had 12 on August 13, 2019 against Cleveland.

Josh Winckowski came on and pitched the 7th and 8th allowing a home run to Max Kepler.

Kenley Jansen pitched the 9th, retiring the side 1-2-3. He's now thrown 6 scoreless innings for the Red Sox as closer.

John Schreiber picked up the win despite allowing 2 runs in the top of the 10th.

Reese McGuire was 1-2 with a 2-run single and scored the winning run in the 10th inning.

Jarren Duran was 2-5 with a double and run batted in. Rafael Devers was 2-4 with a double and drove in a run.

Boston is now 9-9 and back at .500. They will take on Minnesota, (10-7) Wednesday night. Corey Kluber is scheduled to pitch for Boston. The pregame starts at 6:10 p.m, with the 1st pitch at 7:10 p.m. Hear the game on AM 1370 WDEA in Downeast Maine and on 101.9 The Rock in Aroostook County.
