The Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Opening Day, Thursday, March 27th as Wilyer Abreu homered twice, driving in 4 runs.

Abreu homered in the 5th inning, a solo shot.

And then with the score tied at 2-2, hit a 3-run shot in the 9th inning to drive in the winning runs.

Kristian Campbell, making his MLB debut, started at 2nd and picked up his 1st major league hit in the 9th inning.

Garret Crochet started for the Red Sox and went 5.0 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs He struck out 4 and walked 2. Garrett Whitlock pitched the 6th and 7th innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 1. Aroldis Chapman making his Red Sox debut picked up the win (1-0) allowing 1 hit and striking out 1 in the 8th. Justiin Slaten closed out the game, striking out 1, picking up his 1st save of the season.

Former Red Sox Nate Eovaldi started for Texas and went 6.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs, striking out 9. 

After losing Opening Day 2021-23 the Red Sox have now won back-to-back Opening Days. 

Boston (1-0) and Texas (0-1) will play on Thursday night, March 28th with the pregame starting at 7:05 p.m. and 1st pitch at 8:05 p.m. The Red Sox will send Tanner Houck to the mound. Hear the pregame and game on AM 1370 WDEA!
