Red Sox Beat O’s and Rain 5-3
The Boston Red Sox beat the Orioles 5-3 and survived 2 rain delays in Baltimore, Monday night, July 23rd.
Rick Porcello who was shelled in his last start, pitched very well Monday night, throwing 6.0 shutout innings (and the 2 rain delays) allowing 6 hits, striking out 6 and walking 1. He's now 12-4 on the season. Craig Kimbrel pitched the 9th, allowing 1 run but earning his 32nd save of the season.
Mitch Moreland's solo homer in the 2nd inning gave the Red Sox the early lead. They added 4 runs in the 5th inning. Andrew Benintendi double drove in 2 runs. Benintendi was 2-4. JD Martinez's single drove in a run, his 82nd of the season.
The New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Rays Monday night 7-6 and the Red Sox now have their biggest lead of the season, 6.0 games over the Yankees.
The Red Sox will take on the Orioles and the weather again Tuesday night. Drew Pomeranz is scheduled to come off the disabled list and pitch for the Red Sox with the pregame starting 6:20 and 1st pitch at 7:05 on AM 1370 WDEA
