The Boston Red Sox bats exploded for 16 hits and 15 runs and the offense bailed out another subpar pitching performance by David Price as the Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 15-4 on Saturday for their 61st victory of the season.

Price went went 4.2 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 9 and walked 1. 5 relief pitchers held the Royals hitless the rest of the way. Heath Hembree picked up the win and is now 4-1.

The Red Sox victory was not without cost though. Christian Vazquez broke his pinkie sliding in the 7th inning. Joe Kelly left the game feeling lightheaded. It is expected that Vazquez will go on to the disabled list, and Blake Swihart will backup Sandy Leon.

Every Red Sox batter with the exception of Jackie Bradley Jr. had at least 1 hit. Mookie Betts was 4-6 with 2 doubles. Andrew Benintendi had 2 hits, including a double and walked 4 times. JD Martinez had 2 hits with a double and Xander Bogaerts had a double driving in 3 runs.

The Red Sox win allowed them to stay 2 games ahead of the New York Yankees who beat the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday 8-5.

The Red Sox conclude their 3 game series with the Royals on Sunday afternoon, at 2:15 with the pregame starting at 1:30. Rick Porcello  and his 10-3 record is scheduled to take the mound for the Red Sox.
