Boston Beats Tampa Bay 5-3 for 11th Straight Win Reaching .500 [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Friday night, July 17th sweeping the doubleheader and winning their 11th straight game. The win put them at .500 for the 1st time since the 2nd game of the season on March 28th.

The 11 game winning streak is their longest winning streak since 2016, and their 4th in the last 30 seasons, having done it it in 2016, 2009 and 2006. They are a major league-best 19-5 in their last 24 games dating back to June 19th.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning, Wilyer Abreu hit a 2-run homer to tie the game and then Willson Contreras went back-to-back in his 1st game back from a 5-game suspension to give Boston a 3-2 lead.

Abreu hit 2 homers in the game, finishing 2-4 with 3 runs batted in. They were his 12th and 13th of the season.

Contreras hit is 21st of the season.

Caleb Durbin was 2-4 and Anthony Siegler had a double and drove in a run.

Aroldis Chapman struck out 2 in the 9th and recorded his 20th save of the season.
