Poor Poor Pitching. Red Sox Stumble in the Desert Lose to Arizona 15-8
To say that the Boston Red Sox through 9 games have a starting pitching problem is an understatement. On Friday night Rick Porcello was shelled, allowing 7 earned runs in 4.2 innings and 2 home runs. The Boston Red Sox lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 15-8 in the 1st game of the 3 game series.
Porcello struck out 5 and walked 3 while giving up 10 hits. Brian Johnson came on in relief and was ineffective. In 1.1 innings he gave up 7 runs on 6 hits. He allowed 2 homers. Things were so bad that Eduardo Nunez pitched the 8th inning. He too allowed a homer. Boston pitching has allowed 23 homers in 9 games, the most in baseball. Their ERA is now 7.18, ranking them 28th out of 30 clubs. Only the Diamondbacks and Cubs have worse ERAs.
Mitch Moreland hit a 3 run homer for Boston, his 2nd of the season and Mookie Betts hit a 2 run homer, his 2nd of the season. Betts ended up 3-4 with a double. Andrew Benintendi was 2-5.
The Red Sox will take on Arizona on Saturday night in the 2nd game of the 3 game series. David Price will take the mound for Boston. The pregame starts at 7:10 with the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
