Motorists traveling to and through the City of Ellsworth should prepare for delays in the following areas because of planned road work during the week of May 19th.

Bridge Hill Intersection Realignment

The work, being conducted by the Maine Department of Transportation involves a redesign of the Bucksport Rad and Surry Road (Route 172) intersection on Bridge Hill  to improve safety.

The updated design will adjust the angle at which the Bucksport Road meets the Surry Road, creating a more perpendicular (T-shaped) intersection for drivers heading downhill towards downtown. To accommodate trucks with wide turning radiuses, the new layout will also include concrete truck aprons.

The work will begin on May 19th and is expected to continue through mid to late June.

A detour will be established for traffic coming from the Bucksport Road into Ellsworth.

Culvert Repair has been postponed to a later date

Tuesday, May 20th during the day, there will be repairs to the culvert at the intersection of Birch Avenue and Oak Street, reducing the traffic to one lane alternating on both roads.
