One Person is Dead after a House Fire in Baileyville

Crews from Maine and Canada worked together to extinguish a fire in Baileyville that claimed the life of one person.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says fire crews were called to the home at 24 Summit Street at approximately 12:12 Friday morning, for the report of a house fire. As firefighters worked, they found a deceased adult male inside the home, who is believed to be 67-year-old Craig Thompson. Officials say Mr. Thompson lived alone in the house.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office will now work to determine how the fire started. Confirmation of the deceased man's identity and cause of death will be determined by the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. Officials say the investigation is ongoing but foul play is not suspected.

The Baileyville Fire Department was assisted by crews from Maine and Canada, including Calais, Alexander, Princeton, Charlotte, and Saint Stephen, New Brunswick. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Washington County Sheriff's Department and the Baileyville Police Department.
