The MDI Girls Basketball Team are the Northern Maine Class B Champion for the 1st time since 2014, beating the previously undefeated Waterville Purple Panthers 44-35 at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday, February 23rd. MDI will now play Gray New Gloucester on Saturday, March 2nd in Portland at 1PM for the State Championship.

MDI led 9-5 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Maddy Candage had 6 points for MDI while Alexis Clarito had a 3-pointer for 3 points. Waterville was led by Kali Thompson with 3 points while Paige St. Pierre had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, MDI increased their lead to 5 at the half, outscoring Waterville 13-12 to take a 22-17 lead. Julia Watras had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Alexis Clarito had 5 points, with a 3-pointer. Hannah Chamberlain also had a 3-pointer, her 9th of the regional tournament. For Waterville Thompson had 4 points, Sadie Garling and Abigail Saucier each had a 3-pointer and Madeleine Martin had 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter, MDI went on a 6-0 run before Waterville scored with 3:33 left in the Quarter. MDI increased their lead to 10 points, outscoring Waterville 13-8 to take a 35-25 lead. Hannah Chamberlain scored her 10th and 11th 3-pointer of the regional tournament to set the record for most 3-point field goals scored in the Class B North Girls Regional Tournament (the record was 10). Julia Watras also had 6 points and Maddy Candage 1 points. For Waterville Martin had 4 points, Thompson 3 points and Lindsay Given 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter Watras had 6 points, Candage 2 points and Rachelle Swanson was 1-2 from the free throw line for MDI. For Waterville Sadie Works had a 3-pointer, Thompson and Saucier 2 points each. Paige St. Pierre was 2-3 from the free throw line and Gabriella Maines was 1-2 from the line. St. Pierre and Jayda Murray each fouled out, with their 5th fouls each player control fouls.

MDI was led by Julia Watras with a game high 17 points while Maddy Candage and Hannah Chamberlain each had 9 points. MDI was 4-14 from the free throw line

Waterville was led by Kali Thompson with 12 points. The Purple Panthers were 6-14 from the free throw line.
