LD 216 the bill sponsored by Representative Barry Hobbins, a Democrat from Saco, has stalled in the legislature and barring anything miraculous will not be enacted before St. Patrick's Day.

The bill, which would have allowed alcohol sales on St. Patrick's Day at 6 AM, as is the case Monday - Saturday now, was caught up in partisan politics in the Maine State Legislature and Governor Paul LePage had promised to veto any bill that came before his desk prior to the Legislature approving the bill to repay Maine's hospitals. LD 216, the "St. Patrick's Day Bill" could have been approved as emergency legislation but that would have required a 2/3 vote of the Maine House of Representatives and Maine Senate as well as Governor LePage's signature.

The end result, you can have green milk this Sunday morning, but you have to wait till 9 AM to buy your green beer! No cheers for you!
