MDI Falls to Lake Region 36-14 [STATS & PHOTOS]

The MDI Trojans Football Team fell to the Lake Region Lakers 36-14 on Alumni Field in Bar Harbor on Friday, September 12th.

Lake Region outgained MDI 460-283 in total yardage. The Lakers out-passed MDI 275-130 yards and outrushed MDI 185-153 yards.

MDI scored 1st, with 2:32 left in the 1st Quarter on their 2nd possession of the game. Lincoln Gray scored from 1 yards out. The drive took 4:17. Ripley Hawkins converted the 2-point conversion and the Trojans led 8-0.

Lake Region answered on their next possession. Jaiden Meehan completed a 10 yard pass to Matthew Mansulla . The drive took just 1:20. The 2-point conversion was good and the score was tied 8-8 with 1:07 left to go in the 1st Quarter.

MDI and Lake Region were tied at 8-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter, and remained that way until there was just 1:25 left to go in the 1st Half.

Meehan completed a 21 yard pass to Braydan Wilson to give the Lakers the lead. The 2-point conversion was good with Meehan connecting with Wilson, and Lake Region led 16-8.

The 1st Half ended with Lake Region up 16-8, but they should have been up by 2 more touchdowns. MDI's defense turned away a 1st and Goal series, taking over on their own 2 yard line with 3:27 left to go in the game. And Braydan Wilson intercepted a Ripley Hawkins pass and ran it back 80 yards for a pick-6, but the touchdown was negated for an illegal block-in-the-back as time expired.

MDI had the ball to start the 2nd Half, trailing 16-8. Forced to punt, the Lakers took over at their own 31 yard line. Jayden McGlinghey scored on a 22 yard run, with 6:34 left in the 3rd Quarter. The drive took just 53 seconds. The 2-point conversion was no good, and Lake Region led 22-8.

That's how the 3rd Quarter ended.

MDI didn't quit. With 8:41 left to play, Ripley Hawkins connected with Henry Trombetto for a 80 yard pass and run, in a drive that took just 12 seconds. The 2-point conversion was no good, and Lake Region led 22-14

Lake Region scored twice more in the game. With 5:35 left to play, Meehan connected on a 34 yard pass to Jayden Cote. The 2-point conversion was good to make it 30-14. The final touchdown came with 2:52 left to play, when Matthew Mansulla broke off a 76 yard run. The 2-point conversion was no good, and that made the final 36-14.

Special shout-out to MDI's Asa Joyce who had some tremendous kick-off returns including a 46 yard return. Nate Olson's name was called numerous times on the defensive side for the Trojans.

MDI is now 1-1. They will play on Friday, September 19th at 7 p.m. at Waterville. That game will be played at Colby College and will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Lake Region is 2-0. They will host Cape Elizabeth on Friday, September 19th at 7 p.m.
