MDI Trojans Dominate Houlton In Northern Maine Semifinal

The #2 MDI Trojans beat #3 Houlton 46-8 on Thursday night October 30th in a Northern Maine 8-Man Regional Semifinal in Bar Harbor.

The game was delayed 45 minutes in starting because Houlton's bus broke down in Ellsworth, and MDI had to send a bus to pick up the Shiretowners. (Houlton sent down a replacement bus to pick up the team to take them home).

MDI outgained Houlton 242 yards to 82 yards in the 1st Half and finished the night outgaining Houlton 395-105 yards. MDI was 38-370 yards rushing on the night. MDI forced Houlton to punt 8 times and Houlton turned the ball over on downs 3 times.

MDI took a 8-0 lead with 1:51 left in the 1st Quarter. Ripley Hawkins completed a 25 yard pass to Henry Trombetto and the 2-point conversion was good.

With 10:36 left in the 1st Half, Kenneth Stillwell ran in from 2 yards out. The 2-point conversion failed, and MDI led 14-0.

Houlton scored their lone touchdown on Brayden Hallet's 70 yard touchdown run With the 2-point conversion, MDI led 14-8.

Stillwell scored his 2nd touchdown of the night with 4:53 left to play in the 1st Half, on a 14 yard run. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 22-8 at the end of the 1st Half.

In the 3rd Quarter, Lincoln Gray ran in from 54 yards out with 9:56 left to play. With the 2-point conversion good, MDI led 30-8.

With 10.6 left to play in the 3rd Quarter, Ripley Hawkins exploded into the end zone, running in from 46 yards out. With the 2-point conversion, MDI led 38-8.

The final score came with 5:06 left to play. With the 2nd teams playing, Lucas Olson ran in from 14 yards out. The 2-point conversion was good to make the final score 46-8.

MDI is now 4-5, while Houlton finishes the season at 3-5. MDI will either host #4 Waterville or play at #1 Camden Hills in the Regional Finals.
