The MDI Trojans didn't miss a beat on Friday night, September 17th after missing last week's game with Morse because of COVID concerns. They ran for 303 yards and had a 75 yard punt return and and 75 yard kickoff return en route to a 60-20 running time victory over the Orono Red Riots. The game was played at UMaine's Morse Field at the Alfond Stadium because of ongoing renovations to the Orono field.

MDI won the coin toss and chose to receive the ball. After returning the ball to the Red Riot 46 yard line, MDI scored in 45 seconds, with Aiden Grant running in from 12 yards out. The 2-point conversion was no good and MDI led 6-0 with 11:12 left in the 1st Quarter.

Orono was forced to punt, and MDI turned the ball over on downs. and then Orono fumbled, with MDI taking over at the Orono 38 yard line with 3:37 left in the 1st Quarter

MDI scored with Spencer Laurendeau running in from 8 yards out. The drive took 3:36.. The 2-point conversion was no good, and MDI led 12-0 with .50 left in the 1st Quarter.

Orono went on a time consuming drive, lasting nearly 8 minutes, and with 4:43 left in the 1st Half Hayden Rollins scored from 1 yard out. The 2-point conversion was no good and the Trojans led 12-6.

It took MDI just 55 seconds before they were in the end zone again. Laurendeau scoring on a 49 yard run. The 2-point conversion was good, and with 3:39 left in the 1st Half, MDI led 20-6.

After another Red Riot punt, the Trojans took over at  their 28 yard line with 1:48 left to go in the 1st half. Laurendeau lofted a 20 yard pass to a wide open AJ Lozano and with the 2-point conversion good, MDI led 28-6 with 1:16 left in the 1st Half.

After MDI kicked off, the Orono Red Riots failed to recover the ball, and MDI did, in essence a giant on-side kick, taking over on the Red Riot 25 yard line. 1 play later, Laurendeau scampered in from 25 yards out. The 2-point conversion was good, and with 11:51 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, MDI was up 36-6.

Orono was forced to punt, and Jacob Shields returned it 75 yards. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 44-6 with 9:44 left in the 3rd Quarter.

The Red Riots didn't give up. Jack Brewer, their freshman quarterback lofted a 38 yard pass to Kase Walston, another freshman for a touchdown. The drive took 4:47, and Walston kicked the extra point. The score was 44-13 with 4:20 left in the 3rd Quarter.

Alex Gray, took the kick-off return, beating the coverage and sprinting 75 yards for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good and with 3:26 left in the 3rd Quarter the Trojans were up 52-13.

The young freshman from Orono, Brewer, scored from 12 yards out, and Walston kicked his 2nd extra point of the night. The score was 52-20 with 5:58 left.

The final score was Brendan Graves 75 yard run around the right side, and the 2-point conversion was good.

The final score was 60-20.

MDI is now 1-1 and will travel to Millinocket to play Stearns on Friday, September 24th. The game will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with the pregame starting at 6:50 p.m.

Orono is 0-3 and will play host to Morse at UMaine on Friday, September 24th.
