MDI Football Falls to Camden Hills 34-22 on Senior Recognition Night [STATS &PHOTOS]
The MDI Trojans fell to the Camden Hills Windjammers 34-22 on Senior Recognition Night in Bar Harbor on Friday, October 17th.
The game couldn't have started any better for the Trojans. With Camden Hills winning the coin toss, the Windjammers kicked off and Lincoln Gray returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. With the 2-point conversion good, MDI led 8-0 with 11:47 left to play in the 1st Quarter.
Camden Hills took over on their 42 yard line, and scored on their 1st possession. Hollis Schwalm connected on a 46 yard pass to Colton Massey. The 2-point conversion failed and MDI led 8-6.
MDI then scored with 3:44 left to play in the 1st Quarter. Lincoln Gray ran in from 6 yards out, capping a 5:47 drive. The 2-point conversion was no-good, and MDI led 14-6.
MDI was lucky, as Schwalm ran in from 55 yards out, but that was called back, because of a holding penalty.
Maine led 14-6 at the end of the 1st Quarter.
Camden Hills scored with 1:14 left to play in the 1st Half, after a Trojan fumble. The Windjammer's touchdown came again in the air, this time with Hollis Schwalm connecting with Justin Batty for a 65 yard touchdown. This time the 2-point conversion was good and the game was tied at 14-14 at the end of the 1st Half.
In the 1st Half, MDI gained 127 yards, on 28 carries. Camden Hills had 35 yards rushing, but 141 yards passing, and outgained MDI 176-127 in total yardage.
Camden Hills took their 1st lead of the game with 10:09 left to playing the 3rd Quarter, scoring on the opening possession in the 2nd Half. This time, the touchdown came on a Hollis Schwalm 34 yard touchdown run.
Camden Hills led 22-14 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
The Trojans answered in the 4th Quarter, tying the game at 22-22 with 7:32 left to play. Lincoln Gray scored his 3rd touchdown of the game, rushing the ball in from 2 yards out.
Camden Hills took the lead when Schwalm again connected on another long touchdown pass, this time with Brayden Beveridge for 50 yards. The 2-point conversion was no-good and the Windjammers led 28-22.
MDI had a chance to tie or take the lead. They were marching down the field, when Camden Hills picked off Ripley Hawkins.
Camden Hills scored an insurance touchdown, with Schwalm running in nearly untouched from 40 yards out. The 2-point conversion failed, but it was enough to give Camden Hills the 34-22 win.
Camden Hills is now 6-1 and have clinched 1st place in the 8-Man North Standings. They will play at Lake Region on Saturday, October 25th.
MDI is now 3-4. They will be the 2nd or 3rd seed and will play at Yarmouth on Friday, October 24th. That game will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our FREE downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 6:40 and kick off at 7 p.m.
