The MDI Trojans have never won at Winslow. In fact in the program's history, they have only beaten the Black Raiders twice. On Saturday, September 2nd, the Trojans came agonizingly close, losing to Winslow 21-20.

Winslow won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Taking over at their own 45 yard line, the Black Raiders were in the end zone 5 plays later, scoring with 10:11 remaining in the 1st Quarter, on a 22 yard touchdown run by Junior Benjamin Dorval. Senior Ryan Gagnon kicked the extra point, and Winslow led 7-0.

Winslow then kicked off, and Billy Kerley took the kickoff at the MDI 10 yard line, and didn't stop until he ran the ball back 90 yards,.MDI went for 2 points, and the attempt was good, and just like that the crowd at Poulin Field was shocked, as MDI led 8-7 with 9:57 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

It stayed that way until there was 1:29 remaining in the 1st Quarter. Then Gagnon completed a 11 yard pass to Dorval. Gagnon's extra point was good and Winslow led 14-8.

MDI tied the score at 14-14 with 11:49 remaining in the 2nd Quarter. Alden Fournier ran in from 4 yards out. The Trojan's extra point kick attempt was no good.

The 1st Half ended with the score tied 14-14. MDI received the ball to start the 2nd Half, and the Trojan offense powered their way down the field, eating up time on the clock. After 7:50, MDI's Senior Quarterback Andrew Phelps scampered into the end zone with 4:10 left in the 3rd Quarter. MDI again went for 2 points, and this time Andrew Phelps was stopped just short of the end zone, as he dove for the pylon. That made the score 20-14 MDI.

Winslow cam back to take the lead with 16.2 seconds remaining in the 3rd Quarter. when Sophomore Alex Demers ran in from 4 yards out. Gagne's extra point was good, and Winslow led 21-20.

MDI had opportunities in the 4th Quarter, but turned the ball over on fumbles. For the game MDI lost 3 fumbles. The Trojans had one last opportunity with 44.3 seconds, but couldn't score, even though they moved the ball into Winslow territory after taking over on their own 29 yard line.

On a personal note, this is the best I have ever seen the MDI Trojans play down at Winslow in 11 years of covering the team!

MDI, now 0-1 will play host to Old Town, who is 0-1 on Friday night, September 8th with the pregame starting at 6:40 PM and kickoff at 7 PM. The game will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio and on our free downloadable APP from the APP Store, sponsored by First National Bank.
