MDI Girls Upset Presque Isle 51-33 [Box Score/Recap/Stats]
The MDI Girls haven't had a lot of success in Presque Isle over the last decade. Combine that with the fact that they lost to Caribou on Wednesday, December 27th and the odds weren't in the Trojans favor. But the MDI Girls came out and played a total game, playing hard for 32 minutes, with pressure defense challenging for every ball and came away with a 51-33 victory over the Wildcats!
MDI jumped out to a 10-3 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, and Presque Isle didn't score until there was about 15 second left in the Quarter. Emily Banks had 4 points, Alexis Clarito a 3-pointer, Julia Watras 2 points and Maddy Candage 1 point. Presque Isle's lone points came via a 3-pointer from Madison Jandreau.
MDI increased the lead to 11 points at the end of the 1st Half, 23-12, outscoring the Wildcats in the 2nd Quarter 13-9. Candage and Rachelle Swanson had 4 points each for MDI, Hannah Chamberlain drained a 3-pointer and Banks had 2 points. For Presque Isle Emily Wheaton had 4 points, Maggie Castonguay and Molly Kingsbury had 2 points each and Kasey Haley was 1-2 from the free throw line.
MDI outscored Presque Isle 19-17 to take a 42-29 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Candage had 6 points, Maddy Good 5 points with a 3-pointer, Watras, Banks and Chamberlain added 2 points each. For Presque Isle Wheaton had 7 points with a 3-pointer, Madison Michaud had a 3-pointer and Savanah Rodriguez added 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter Presque Isle only scored 4 points, from Wheaton before Wildcat coach Jeff Hudson emptied his bench. MDI received 3 points from Good and 2 points each from Banks, Clarito and Candage.
MDI was led by Maddy Candage with 13 points, while Emily Banks had 10 points. The Trojans were 4-8 from the free throw line.
Presque Isle was led by Emily Wheaton with a game high 15 points. The Wildcats were 11-15 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 5-1 and will play host to Old Town on Saturday, December 30th at 3:30 with the pregame starting at 3:15 in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
Presque Isle, 3-1 will travel to Hermon to play the Hawks on Saturday, December 30th at 3PM.
