MDI Girls Shutout Belfast 4-0
The MDI Girls Soccer Team shutout Belfast 4-0 in Belfast on Tuesday, October 10th, as Daisy Granholm scored all 4 goals for the Trojans.
MDI began the game on the attack and found themselves up a goal when Granholm's 1st goal went into the right pigeon hole (top right corner) with just minutes elapsed (2:15). Five minutes later, Granholm connected again, with 33:09 remaining, when she beat the Belfast defense and goalie, Shera Hilt, this time firing into the left upper corner.
With 19:47 remaining in the 1st Half, Mei Cook slide a through ball up ahead to Granholm who fired it far post to give MDI a 3-0 lead at the end of the 1st Half.
With less than a minute elapsed in the 2nd Half, Granholm scored her 4th goal, and the game's final goal when she made her way down the left side of the field and through the defense, tucking the ball near post through a diving Hilt.
MDI's goalie, Hannah Goodwin had 4 saves while Belfast's goalie Shera Hilt had 12 saves.
According to Coach May Dow "We came out strong in the 1st Half of the beginning of the game and then we started to play a little slower and not making the same runs and movements we did to start the game. Although we were connecting on our combination passes, our intensity level and movements were down and we addressed this during halftime. I challenged the team because I knew we could play better than we were and collectively the girls felt the same way. I thought our defense did a nice job thwarting away some good looks Belfast had on our goal and Hannah came up with some great saves. Coming out for the 2nd Half, we played with more intensity and we made better ball movements and passing options for each other. We were more engaged and we challenged and pressured Belfast better when they had the ball."
MDI 5-5-1 has 2 regular season games remaining. They are on the road Thursday, October 12th at Foxcroft Academy at 4 PM and then finishes the season at home on Tuesday, October 17th, Senior Night, at 6 PM against the Ellsworth Eagles.
