MDI Girls Outlast Orono 41-38 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Girls bounced back from their first loss to Ellsworth since 2004,on Thursday, January 10th, outlasting a determined Orono Red Riot Team 41-38 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium on Monday, January 14th.
MDI took a 13-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter as Julia Watras hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Watras had 7 points for MDI, Maddy Canadage 4 points and Hannah Chamberlain was 2-2 from the free throw line for MDI. Ellie Sockabasin had 7 points for Orono and Izzy Baker had a 3-pointer.
MDI led 23-22 at the end of the 1st Half, with Hannah Chamberlain putting MDI ahead with a 3-pointer with 9 seconds left in the 1st Half. Olivia Gray also had a 3-pointer and Candage adn Rachelle Swanson each had 2 points for MDI. For Orono Sockabasin had 4 points, Camryn Brown a 3-pointer, Lauren Melanson 3 points and Baker 2 points.
MDI led 37-34 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Watras, Alexis Clarito, and Candage each had 4 points for MDI while Swanson had 2 points for the Trojans. For Orono Sockabasin had 3 more points. Melanson and Baker each had a 3-pointer and Mary Kate Smith 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter each team scored just 4 points as both played very deliberately. Clarito and Chamberlain each had 2 points for MDI while Melanson scored all of Orono's 4 points.
MDI was led by Julia Watras with 11 points and Maddy Candage with 10 points. The Trojans were 2-2 from the free throw line.
Orono was led by Ellie Sockabasin with a game high 15 points and Lauren Melanson ahd 10 points. The Red Riots were 2-5 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 9-1 and will play at Hermon on Thursday, January 17th at 7PM.
Orono is 3-8 and plays at Caribou on Saturday, January 19th at 1:30PM
