MDI Girls Fall In Presque Isle 65-50

The MDI Lady Trojans were up in Presque Isle on Saturday, January 25th hoping to stop Presque Isle's 58 game winning streak. Presque Isle's Gymnasium was packed to capacity in anticipation of this game, which was a rematch of the game that Presque Isle narrowly won on the Island on December 28th, 58-56

MDI jumped out to a 19-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, in a fast paced quarter . MDI was led by Kelsey Saw with 6 points and Molly Carroll with 5 points including a 3-pointer. Presque Isle received 4 points from Emma Kinney and Krystal Kingsbury.

The 2nd Quarter Presque Isle exploded, hitting 4 3-pointers, as Taylor Williamson and Morgan Wilcox each sank two. Presque Isle outscored MDI in the 2nd Quarter 20-9, to take a 30-28 lead. MDI received 4 more points from Molly Carroll and Sierra Tapley hit a 3-pointer.

MDI tried to rally in the 3rd Quarter, but trailed at the end of the 3rd, 45-40. Sarah Phelps drained 2 3-pointers for MDI, but Taylor Williams hit another 3-pointer for Presque Isle, and Hannah Graham had a 3-pointer and Krystal Kingsbury added 6 more points.

In the 4th Quarter, Presque Isle's Williams added her 4th 3-pointer of the game and Presque Isle went 7-8 from the free throw line. Sierra Tapley added 6 for the Trojans.

MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with 12 points and Sierra Tapley had 11 points. Sarah Phelps ended with 2 3-pointers and Carroll and Tapley each had a 3-pointer. MDI was 2-3 from the free throw line. Presque Isle was led by Krystal Kingsbury and Taylor Williams with 15 points apiece. Williams had 4 3-pointers, Morgan Wilcox had 2 3-pointer and Hannah Graham had 1 3-pointer. Presque Isle was 11-15 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 13-2 on the season, with their two losses coming at the hands of the Presque Isle Wildcats. MDI has 3 games remaining in the regular season, home January 29th against Washington Academy, which will be Senior Night, and then away on February 4th at the Cross Insurance Center against John Bapst and then on Thursday, February 6th against Ellsworth at Katsiaficas Gymnasium. The February 4th and 6th games against John Bapst and Ellsworth will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370.

Presque Isle is now 16-0 and has two games remaining in the season, both away games. They play John Bapst at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday, February 1st and then Caribou on Thursday, February 6th.
