MDI Girls Complete County Sweep Beat Presque Isle 52-37
The weekend was very good to the MDI Girls Basketball Team as they completed the Aroostook County sweep, defeating Presque Isle in Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon January 26th 52-37 after defeating Caribou Friday night 68-34
MDI jumped out to a 18-5 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Maddy Candage had 6 points, Julia Watras 5 points, Alexis Clarito sank a 3-pointer and Rachelle Swanson and Hannah Chamberlain each had 2 points for the Trojans. For Presque Isle Molly Kingsbury had a 3-pointer and Maggie Castonguay had 2 points.
MDI made it 26-13 at the end of the 1st Half. In the 2nd Quarter Clarito had 2 3's and Watras was 2-2 from the free throw line. For Presque Isle Madison Jandreau and Madison Michaud each had a 3-pointer and Castonguay chipped with 2 points.
In the 3rd Quarter MDI outscored Presque Isle 13-11 to increase their lead to 39-24. Candage had 6 points, Watras 4 points and Swanson a 3-pointer for the Trojans. Presque Isle received 6 points from Kingsbury, including a 3-pointer. Magige Castonguay had a 3-pointer and Michaud 2 points.
Int he 4th Quarter Candage had 6 points for the Trojans, Watras drained a 3-pointer and Clarito was 2-2 from the free throw line, and Olivia Gray and Rachelle Swanson were each 1-2 from the free throw line. For Presque Isle Michaud and Faith Sjoberg each had 4 points. Kingsbury sank her 3rd 3-pointer of the afternoon and Elizabeth Collins had 2 points.
MDI was led by Maddy Candage with a game high 18 points. Julia Watras had 14 points and Alexis Clarito 11 points. The Trojans were 9-14 from the free throw line.
Presque Isle was led by Molly Kingsbury with 12 points. The Wildcats were 7-11 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 12-2 and will play host to Hermon on Tuesday, January 29th at 7PM. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 6:45
Presque Isle is 8-7 and plays host to Houlton on Wednesday, January 30th at 7PM.
