The MDI Trojans fell to the Nokomis Warriors 44-12 in Newport on Saturday afternoon, October 6th at homecoming for Nokomis.

The day started out promising for the Trojans, as they won the toss and elected to defer. MDI kicked off and Nokomis took over on the MDI 45 yard line. MDI's defense forced a turn over on downs, and the Trojans took over at their own 46 yard line with 10:53 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

MDI was efficient in their 1st drive, going down the field in 6 plays and 2:30 capped off by a 18 yard touchdown run by Elijah Joyce. The 2 point attempt was no good, and MDI led 6-0 with 8:23 remaining in the 1st Quarter. he Nokomis 48 yard line. MDI's offense went 3 and out, and were forced to punt, with Nokomis taking over at their own 16 yard line with 6:55 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

Six plays later the Trojans forced the Warriors to punt, and MDI took over on their 32 yard line with 3:47 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

The Trojan offense gained a 1st down but were forced to punt again, giving the Warriors the ball at their own 28 yard line with 1:32 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

Nokomis scored on a 4 play drive that took just 48 seconds, with the big play being a 48 yard pass from Andrew Haining to Chance Graves. Alex Costedio ran in from 7 yards out for the touchdown. Cade Kreider kicked the extra point, and Nokomis led 7-6.

MDI took over with 37.1 seconds remaining in the 1st Quarter and went on a long drive eating up nearly 4 minutes before being forced to punt yet again.

Nokomis took over on their own 21 yard line with 8:32 remaining in  the 1st Half. Nokomis moved the ball down the field before their offense stalled, and Kreider kicked a 33 yard field goal with 4:57 remaining in the Half to give the Warriors a 10-6 lead.

MDI took over with 4:50 remaining and on then proceeded to cough up the ball with Nokomis taking over on the MDI 22 yard line with 4:02 left in the Half. 3 plays and 1 minute later Haining completed a 19 yard pass to Brock Graves for the touchdown. Kreiders point after kick was good, and with 3:02 left Nokomis led 17-6.

MDI took over on their 30 yard line and 5 plays later Baylor Landsman was picked off and Nolomis tood over at the MDI 43 yard line.

This time the MDI defense forced Nokomis to go 3 and out, and the Warriors punted.

MDI took over on their 18 yard line with 48.5 seconds remaining. The Trojans moved the ball down into Nokomis territory before time expired with the Warriors up 17-6..

MDI received the 2nd Half kickoff and brough it back to their 42 yard line. They turned the ball over on downs, with Nokomis taking over on their own 41 yard line with 9:47 remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

The Warriors marched down the field, with David Wilson running in from 18 yards out, The drive took 1:48 and 4 plays. Kreider's extra point attempt was no good, and with 7:59 remaining in the 3rd Quarter Nokomis was up 23-6.

MDI took over on their own 43 yard line with 7:52 left in the 3rd Quarter, and turned the ball over on downs.

Nokomis took over at midfield with 5:55 left in the 3rd Quarter. and proceeded to score again, with Wilson running in from 2 yards out. The 9 play drive took 2:51. The point after kick was good and with 3:04 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, Nolomis was up 30-6.

MDI then fumbled the ball on a tough pitch and Nolomis took over at the MDI 36 yard line. It took 4 plays and the Warriors were in the end zone again, this time on an end around by Tyler Pelletier. The 2 point attempt was no good, and with 32.5 seconds  remaining in the 3rd Quarter, Nokomis led 36-6.

Nokomis started shuffling in their reserves in the 4th Quarter. MDI scored with 8:06 remaining in the game on a Eric Merchant 14 yard run. The 2 point conversion was no good, and MDI cut the lead to 36-12

Nokomis finished the scoring with 5:27 remaining in the 4th Quarter with Seth Woodard running in from 2 yards out. The 2 point attempt was good when Beau Briggs ran the ball in to make the final score 44-12.

MDI 1-5, returns home on Friday, October 12th to take on John Bapst on Senior Recognition Night, and Homecoming. MDI will also honor athletes from the 1st class at MDI High School from the 1968-69 Class. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Nokomis 3-3 plays host to Hampden on Senior Recognition Day on Saturday, October 13th at 1PM.
