MDI Boys Fall to Shiretowners 61-54

The MDI Boys Basketball Team dropped their opening game of the season, losing to the Houlton Shiretowners 61-54 as Houlton outscored MDI 14-6 in the 3rd Quarter to take a lead they'd never relinquish.

MDI jumped out to a 15-12 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Charlie Parker had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Brady Renault and Jack DaCorte each had 4 points and Erik Merchant was 2-2 from the free throw line. For Houlton Caleb Solomon had 6 points, Isaiah Gentle a 3-pointer, Keegan Gentle 2 points and Drew Foley was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Int he 2nd Quarter MDI extended their lead, outscoring Houlton 20-16 to take a 35-28 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Ethan Merchant and Nate Philbrook each had 4 points for MDI. Renault hit a 3-pointer, Porter Isaacs had 3 points, DaCorte had 2 points and Parker was 2-2 from the free throw line. For Houtlon Solomon and Keegan Gentle each had 4 points, Isaiah Gentle had another 3-pointer, Cameron Callnan 3 points and Collin Moody was 2-2 from the free throw line.

In the decisive 3rd Quarter Houlton went on a 10-0 run before MDI scored with 3:45 remaining in the Quarter. Houlton outscored MDI 14-6 to take a 42-41 lead. Keegan Gentle had 8 points including a 3-pointer, Javon Gentle 4 points and Callnan 2 points. For MDI Renault and Isaacs each had 3 points.

In the 4th Quarte3r, Keegan Gentle scored 17 points to pace Houlton including 2 3-pointers. Callnan had 2 points for the Shiretowners. For MDI DaCorte had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Philborook 3 points, Merchant and Renault 2 points and Cadin Lunt 1 point.

MDI was led by Brady Renault with 12 points while Jack DaCorte had 11 points. The Trojans were 13-19 from the free throw line.

Houlton wa led by Keegan Gentle with a game high 31 points, while Caleb Solomon had 10 points. The Shiretowners were 24-43 from the free throw line.

MDI 0-1 will play host to John Bapst on Wednesday December 11th at 7 p.m.

Houlton 1-0 will play at Presque Isle on Wednesday, December 11th at 7 p.m.
