MDI Boys Fall to Orono 61-50

The MDI Boy's Basketball team saw their season come to a close, losing to the Orono Red Riots 61-50 in the Class B North Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, February 13th at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

MDI jumped out to an early 12-10 lead in the 1st Quarter. Aaron Snurkowski and Riley Swanson hit 3-pointers and Andrew Phelps, Gus Reeves and Russell Kropff each had 2 points for the MDI Trojans. For Orono, Nate Desisto, Connor Robertson, Kamron Hines, Jackson Coutts and Imao Woldring each had 2 points.

The game remained close in the 2nd quarter with each team trading baskets, and MDI led at the Half 29-27. For MDI, Reeves had 5 points, Swanson 4 points, Snurkowski a  3-pointer for 3 points and Phelps and Isaiah Keene each had 2 points. For Orono, Keenan Collett had5 points, Jake Koffman and Kamron hines had 4 points each, while Robertson and Worldring each had 2 points.

The 3rd Quarter saw Orono outscore MDI 15-6, to take a 42-35 lead. Imao Worldring had 5 points including a 3-pointer for Orono, while Koffman had 5 points, and Desisto had 3 points while Coutts had 2 points for the Red Riots. For MDI Swanson and Good each had 2 points while Andrew Phelps and Drew Rich each had 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter, Orono made their free throws, going 16-18 to finish 22-29 from the free throw line. MDI could never close the gap within 3 points despite 3-pointers from Andrew Phelps, Aaron Snurkowski and Russell Kropff.

MDI the #5 seed's season comes to an end, with a record of 15-5. It's the last game for seniors Isaiah Keene and Kaleb Payson.

Orono, the #4 seed, improves their record to 15-4 and will play the winner of the Old Town-Belfast Quarterfinal on Wednesday, February 17th,
