According to one of the parents there, the police responding were respectful, and "loved on" the kids, creating a supportive atmosphere  while they finished their protest, allowing photos to be taken before the cups were removed.

Cups at Ellsworth High School have a long tradition. Messages are often spelled out in support of soccer teams at Del Luce Stadium. When the Relay for Life has been held at Del Luce Stadium messages have been written with cups. This past Spring cups were used to spell out We Love Our Seniors.
