Boston Red Sox Extend Winning Streak With Duran's Grand Slam

The Boston Red Sox beat the Florida Marlins for their 5th straight win 7-3 on Tuesday night, August 25th. as Jarren Duran broke a 3-3 tie with a grand slam in the 11th inning.

The game was a pitcher's duel through 9 innings, as each team only had 4 hits.

Mickey Gaspar after reaching base all 4 times in Tuesday's game, did the same on Wednesday night. He hit a pair of solo home runs and walked twice for Boston's runs.

In the 10th inning, Connor Wong scored for Boston, coming home on a passed ball that hit the umpire straight in the facemask when the Florida catcher missed the pitch.

Boston looked poised to win the game, when Wyatt Olds struck out the final batter, but Wong couldn't catch the ball, and Florida scored on the passed ball.

That left it up to Duran, for the grand slam! It was Duran's 18th homer of the season.

Gaspar's homers were his 4th and 5th of the season.

Willson Contreras was 2-5.

Payton Tolle started for Boston and went 5.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 7 and walked 2. Alex Gamboa pitched the final 1.1 innings for the win, and is 1-0.

Boston picked up a game on the 1st place Tampa Bay Rays and 2nd place New York Yankees as both teams lost on Tuesday. Boston is 5.0 games out of 1st place and 1.5 games behind the Yankees.
