Over two years ago it was announced that Blue Hill Hospital was outdated and had features better suited for yesterday’s health care.

Also it was announced at the time by Northern Light that rather than renovate the existing building that was nearly 100 years old, it was more cost effective to start over with a new building. Obviously more modern, and designed with current needs in mind.

This Wednesday the 23rd the new building will open.

First thing to be accomplished will be the transfer of patients from the old building to the new one.

The new rooms are all private rooms and face Blue Hill Bay.

And more modern ways of doing things found less need for the number of rooms that were in the old facility, so there are indeed fewer rooms, and in the new facility all are private rooms.

Wednesday will not end the construction zone, as there will still be a need for the old hospital until this fall.

The new building is on the right above, and the old in the background on the left.

Parking and accessibility will still be available from both Water Street and Parker Point Road. And there will be parking lot attendants at both entrances assisting with information as to where to enter, and where to go for appointments.

Here is to another 100 years for Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital as the new on the left, replaces the old on the right.
