Maine starts sending out $300 affordability payments this month, so how do you know if one is coming your way?

Governor Janet Mills said the money for the $155 million program will come from the rainy day fund, and is meant to help Mainers struggling with the rising costs of...well...everything. Groceries, gas, you name it.
Eligible Maine Residents to Receive $300 Affordability Checks by Mail
So, how do you know if you're eligible for the $300 payment?
According to Maine Revenue Service, there are three requirements for eligibility:
- File a 2025 Maine individual income tax return by October 15, 2026, as a full-year Maine resident.
- Not to be eligible to be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's 2025 individual income tax return.
- Have federal adjusted gross income of less than:
- $100,000 if married filing jointly or a qualifying surviving spouse;
- $75,000 if filing as head of household; or
- $50,000 if single or married filing separately.
The paper checks are being mailed out this month, to the address that was listed on your 2025 tax return.
Maine Residents With Address Changes May Need to Contact Maine Revenue
If you've moved but submitted a change of address request to the post office, your payment will automatically be forwarded to your new address.

But if you need to update the address on record with Maine Revenue Services, you can submit it in writing including: the date of your request, your name, your social security number, your signature, and proof of the new address, like a utility bill or copy of your most recent photo ID.
You can email that information to Affordability.MRS@maine.gov
or mail it to:
- Maine Revenue Services
- PO Box 1060
- Augusta, ME 04332-1060
Start watching your mailbox because, again, those checks are being mailed out this month.
