Hancock Man Arrested for a Fatal Hit and Run in Southwest Harbor
A Hancock man is charged with manslaughter for a fatal hit and run in Southwest Harbor.
Who Was Arrested?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says John Holdsworth, 31, of Hancock was arrested on Thursday, July 27th.
Where Did the Hit and Run Take Place?
The charges stem from a hit and run crash over a month earlier when Holdsworth allegedly hit Amber Robbins, 35 of Tremont with his vehicle as she was walking along Main Street in Southwest Harbor. While Robbins was hit Saturday evening, June 10th, it wasn't until the following morning when her body was found. A passerby discovered her body in a ditch just after 11:30 Sunday morning, July 11th and called 911. Robbins was examined by the Chief Medical Examiner, who determined that she died of blunt force trauma.
What is He Charged With?
Over a month later, Holdsworth was taken into custody by members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and transported to the Hancock County Jail. He's been charged with manslaughter and is expected to make his initial court appearance on Friday, July 28th.
This case is being prosecuted by the Hancock County District Attorney's Office.
