A Franklin man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Franklin on Saturday morning.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says John Emerson, 51, of Franklin died at the scene.

Where Did the Crash Happen?

It was just after 1:00 Saturday morning when the Bangor Regional Communications Center learned of a single vehicle crash that had happened in the area of 45 West Franklin Road in Franklin. A passing motorist told police that they found a Silver Chevy Aveo that was upside down on the opposite side of the roadway. They said the driver appeared to be unconscious and seriously hurt.

When Maine State Troopers arrived, they learned that Emerson was deceased.

Were There Contributing Factors?

The initial investigation indicates that Emerson had crossed the center line, prior to leaving the roadway. His vehicle hit a large rock and then overturned. Police say speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors to the crash.

This incident remains under investigation.
