A resident of Peru (the country, not the city in Maine) was arrested last week for trafficking in heroin out of a Hancock County motel.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 33-year-old Pedro Lezama Agaz was staying at the motel and allegedly selling heroin from his room. Several tips led State Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency's Downeast Task Force to launch an investigation.

Troopers and Drug Agents searched the room on Sunday, April 9th and seized over 600 dosage units of heroin, with an estimated street value of $15,000. Investigators also found approximately $15,000 in cash that's suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, along with a loaded, semi-automatic shotgun.

Lezama Agaz is charged with Class A Trafficking in Heroin, which was elevated to aggravated because of the loaded firearm. He was taken to the Hancock County Jail where he's scheduled to appear in court this week.
