Husson University named Kate Goupee as the Head Coach of the cross country and track & field programs on Friday May 30, 2014!

“We are very happy to announce that Kate will be our next head coach for cross country and track. She has been a major part of our very successful program since joining the Husson staff. In addition, Kate did an outstanding job leading the program on an interim basis during the spring semester,” said Husson Director of Athletics Frank Pergolizzi, “We look forward to much continued academic and athletic success from the cross country and track programs in the years to come.”

Goupee served as the assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams for the past two seasons, most recently being named the interim head coach for cross county and a tri-interim head coach for the indoor and outdoor track & field teams during the 2013-2014 season.

“I want to extend a sincere thank you to Husson University Athletics Director Frank Pergolizzi and the search committee for the opportunity they have presented me with. I also want to thank my family, former coaches, colleagues at MDI and Husson University, and the local running community for supporting my love of cross country and track and field,” said Goupee upon her appointment.

Goupee is a 2003 graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, where she earned a B.S. in Secondary Education and Social Science. Goupee served as the Head cross country coach at Mount Desert Island High School from 2006 to 2009, after being the assistant coach from 2004 to 2005. She led the indoor track program at MDI from 2005-2006 as the head coach, as well as the assistant outdoor track coach intermittently from 2004 to 2011.

“It is the passion instilled in me via that support that I hope to share with Husson Student-Athletes leading them to success while in a Husson University uniform and beyond. I am very honored to be given the responsibility of leading these four varsity programs for Husson and will look to advance them in the coming years. Having worked with these athletes for two years, I know the caliber of athletes they are and I am excited to help them meet their potential,” Goupee added.
