Ellsworth Fire Personnel Extinguish Commercial Structure Fire on Franklin Street
On the afternoon of Thursday, June 25, 2026, the Ellsworth Fire Department successfully contained and extinguished a commercial structure fire at 10 Franklin Street, a building adjoined to the Riverside Cafe.
At approximately 1:57 PM, emergency dispatch received a 911 call initially reporting an outside fire involving haybales that quickly spread to the rear of the Franklin Street building, an adjacent garage structure, and surrounding trees.
Ellsworth Fire personnel arrived on scene within minutes of the dispatch. Incident Command identified an active fire underneath and at the backside of the building, and Ellsworth crews immediately initiated aggressive suppression efforts to prevent the flames from spreading into the adjoined Riverside Cafe.
As part of the initial response protocols for a commercial structure, mutual aid was automatically dispatched to assist. Units from Hancock, Lamoine, Trenton, and Mariaville responded to the area. Upon declaring the scene under control Trenton Fire Department provided city station coverage. Local law enforcement assisted with traffic control, temporarily blocking traffic at Pine Street, and Franklin Street to ensure scene safety.
Through the action of Ellsworth Fire personnel, a rapid knockdown and thorough overhaul were completed by 2:24 PM, successfully containing the fire and protecting the adjoined properties from significant interior damage.
No injuries were reported, and all occupants safely evacuated. Following a complete overhaul, the fire was declared fully out, and the property was turned back over to the owner at 2:50 PM.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
