Ellsworth High School’s Cross Country Mud Run
If you were on Main Street in downtown Ellsworth on Tuesday afternoon, September 24th you could be excused if you did a double-take at about 4:15 in the afternoon. Because you would have witnessed a group of mud covered runners, running down the sidewalk chanting E-X-C!
They were carrying sticks but there was no need to be alarmed as you can tell by the smiles! It's just an Ellsworth High School Cross Country Tradition!
From there they ran to the river to wash off. The good news was that temperatures Tuesday afternoon were in the high 60's
Those cross country runners are a strange group, with some stranger traditions. And this strangeness is in a good way of course. One only has to look at the MDI Cross Country Tradition of heading into the Atlantic Ocean for 12 minutes right before States, to get all the lactic acid out of their legs. It seems to work, but it certainly makes for great photos too!
